Spacious Outdoor Play Areas
The outdoor setting of our schools may be the most unique aspect to our school, and most likely creates the most lasting memories for our students. The Immanuel Montessori Schools are situated on a large grassy lot. We have organic garden plots. The parents, teachers, and students plant the garden together each spring and throughout the summer the children freely harvest tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, herbs and more, to make cheese turnovers, fresh salads among other dishes that they can enjoy as snacks or at lunch time. During summer, the children dress in their bathing suits to enjoy the sprinkler.
We don’t let the weather affect our outdoor play time. The children dress in rain boots, snowsuits, or swim suits to go outside and enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer them. If you ever visit our playground, you will see children cooking in the mud kitchen, others washing or drawing with chalk and painting with water, while a few others are swinging or just running around and being silly.
You might also see a couple of them sitting quietly by the chickens’ coop to look at the chickens and maybe even feed them. Every day, the children look eagerly for any eggs to bring proudly into the kitchen. They know they will get to make their own omelet or deviled eggs once there is enough for everybody. Our playground has been designed to encourage children to be creative, socialize and build unforgettable memories. The most popular toy is the recycling bin. The children make homes for caterpillars in egg cartons and grass soup in yogurt containers! What an opportunity for the children to use their imagination and enhance their creativity!
